VIDEO: #ThrowbackThursday – August 1986: The Jonkerhuis and more …

WATCH: The Herald goes back, way back, to August 1986 for this week’s #ThrowbackThursday, for a look at the historical Jonkerhuis.

It’s Throwback Thursday and the Herald went back in time to August 1986 to see what was in the news.

In the 8 August 1986 edition, the Herald reported on the Jonkerhuis, said to be one of Randfontein’s historical buildings. The reporter at the time picked up a number of interesting things about the house and even spoke to one of the Jonkers about what they did there during their childhood.

Post Office in Kocksoord was going to be renovated after a council decision was taken.

This house, according to Hilton Hamman, author of A Town Like No Other (based on Randfontein) was built in 1859 and was originally owned by Louis le Grange.

The Herald also spoke to councillor Ellik de Lange, who shared a bit of history about the Jonkerhuis.

Prices of items that people could bargain on.

Other news items that people found interesting at the time were:

• Kocksoord P.O. restoration is on

• Our model hunt hots up

• South Africa opens its heart to disabled people

• Yamaha does it again

• Come run with Bruce Fordyce
