Six-year jail term for Mohlakeng burglar

Man who committed burglary at a house in Mohlakeng last year sentenced to six years in prison.

A 27-year old man was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment after being found guilty of burglary with the intent to steal. The crime was committed in Mohlakeng last year.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, the Randfontein Police spokesperson, “William Thekiso broke into a house in Kgama Street, Mohlakeng during the evening of 21 January 2017. He was later identified and arrested.”

Warrant Officer Michael Chuene investigated the case and was pleased with the culmination of the investigation when the accused was sentenced in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court.

“The accused will effectively serve a six-year sentence,” Ernst said.

Lieutenant Colonel Steven Ramathlape, acting Randfontein Police Detective commander, congratulated Chuene on the successful conviction.

“We also need to thank the Prosecuting Authority for their stance on this matter since property-related crimes are rife. Together we will rid the Randfontein area of these criminals,” he said.
