According to Captain Appel Ernst, the Randfontein Police spokesperson, Eloff was arrested and appeared in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court recently.

“He was sentenced to a total of six years’ imprisonment following the investigation into 12 charges ranging from theft to fraud committed over a period of three years,” Ernst said.

Warrant Officer Karlien Coombe investigated that case and was pleased that the investigation culminated in the sentencing of the accused.

“He was facing charges of defrauding unemployed artisans looking for work. He allegedly took money from them, promising them employment. He was arrested when his activities were brought to the attention of the police by a local labour sourcing company,” Ernst said.

“Six charges were combined and the accused was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment, while on another count, he was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. The accused will effectively serve a six-year sentence,” Ernst added.

Lieutenant Colonel Steven Ramathlape, Randfontein’s acting detective commander, congratulated the investigating officer on the successful conclusion of the case.

“Partnership between local businesses, the police and the Prosecuting Authority yielded this result. We will continue taking action against criminal elements in our town,” Ramatlape said.
