Rosa inspires aspiring pageant queens
Westonaria resident Rosa van Niekerk was among those who pampered, encouraged and inspired this year’s Mrs Commonwealth SA finalists.
Our very own Rosa van Niekerk spoke to and inspired this year’s Mrs Commonwealth SA finalists in Morningside during the first weekend of August.
The weekend was filled with glamour, growth and sisterhood as the Mrs Commonwealth 2018 finalists spent three evenings at the elegant Faircity Quartermain Hotel in Morningside. Activities ranged from physical to intellectual and interactive, and the women had the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the industry.
The workshops also included an encouraging talk on ‘The Power of the Sash’ from previous queen Lucy Peter, Mrs Commonwealth 2016/ 17 and an inspiring and engaging session with the brilliant Janet Baylis from Talk Training. The women were also treated to a special visit and talk from Rosa van Niekerk, Mrs Grand South Africa and Mrs Classic Universe 2018.
The grand finale will be held on Friday, 12 October at Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre.
According to Rosa, “The ladies were encouraged to step out of their comfort zone and share personal stories about their journey, moments in their lives that have not been easy.”
Robert Gray, who spoke to the women about personal branding added, “These are the moments that build your character, that make you a stronger person than you were before. Life is a journey, and we need to continuously grow in order to achieve greatness.”
But the weekend was not all about lectures and workshops as the pageant held its very own Mrs Commonwealth Games. Wearing takkies and tights, the women were tested to present themselves like true queens in any given situation.
According to a statement released by Jennifer Purchase of LiveWired, “As mothers and wives these phenomenal women have embarked on a journey of a lifetime, a journey that challenges and drives them to be the woman they have always dreamed of being. A woman who stands up for her community, who faces challenges head-on with pro-active action. A woman who is not afraid to make her voice heard. These are the woman who are competing in this year’s pageant.”
She added, “These women have been on this journey for the past five months and their growth and development as empowered women stands out above the crowd. Their confidence and drive is enough to inspire anyone to be and do more in their community. This growth is a result of hard work and superb mentors, including the leadership of Anèl de Swardt, Commonwealth Pageants South Africa director.
“The finalists are encouraging married women in their communities to never underestimate their potential. Their journey is a testimony that this platform will give you wings to fly and be the change that your community needs.”
