DA marks Women’s Day with gifts

The items were donated to women at the Riet Family Guidance Centre.

The Gauteng DA marked Women’s Day on Wednesday 8 August, by donating toiletries to Riet Family Guidance Centre in Randfontein. The centre houses people who have fled from abusive homes, especially women and children.

Among the many items donated were toothpaste, face cloths, bath sponges, lotion, soap, sanitary towels and deodorant.

DA Gauteng leader, John Moodey said the purpose of the donation was to recognise the good work the NGO is doing in the community.

“We are here today to show solidarity with this foundation for being of service to the most vulnerable in society,” Moodey said.

He said it is unfortunate that women are not valued by society the way they should. “We often forget that we are the products of our mothers more that we are products of our fathers,” Moodey said. He also said very often women are treated with the utmost disrespect.

Ivan Kotze, director of the centre, thanked the DA for the donation and said women must be valued and protected.

“Any community without women cannot be a community or a society. Women are the stronghold of any community and we want to encourage those who are here today, to stand strong,” Kotze added.
