Man attacked at dump site dies in hospital

A young man who was allegedly attacked at the Randfontein dump site on 31 July passed away two days later.

A 24-year-old man has passed away in Leratong Hospital, just two days after allegedly being attacked at the Randfontein dump site.

Captain Appel Ernst, the Randfontein Police spokesperson, said it is alleged the victim was attacked by illegal miners on the afternoon of Tuesday, 31 July.

“He was then taken to Leratong Hospital for medical treatment but the extent of his injuries resulted in his death,” Ernst confirmed.

“We are investigating a case of murder and any information regarding the incident would be appreciated. Any helpful information may be communicated to the Randfontein detectives on 011 278 8100,” Ernst added.
