Four more hijackers terrorising R’fontein motorists arrested

Hijacking breakthrough! Police have arrested four more male hijackers who have been terrorising Randfontein motorists.

Four more hijackers, aged between 23 and 30 years, who have been terrorising Randfontein are in custody.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, there was yet another hijacking incident in Kgomoeahlaba Street, Bekkersdal in Randfontein on Sunday, 29 July.

“It is alleged the victim arrived at his home, where he allegedly switched his vehicle off to open the gate. As he returned to the vehicle he was attacked by two black men,” Lefakane said.

One of the suspects was armed.

“They forced him into the back seat and started hitting him in the face with the firearm, and ordered him to undress. They drove him to the entrance of Bekkersdal, where they left him,” Lefakane continued.

The victim was assisted by another motorist who took him to the Bekkersdal Police Station. The incident was reported and a case was opened. A lookout was issued to the members on duty.

“Constables Siyabonga Shange and Thembinkosi Shongwe were patrolling along the N12 road when they spotted a vehicle fitting the description they had received. They pounced, and managed to arrest four men,” Lefakane said.

The police recovered the hijacked vehicle and confiscated the firearm.

“The station commander commended the members for their bravery and applauded them for a job well done. He also thanked both the member of the community for speedily driving the victim to the police station and the officers who swiftly reacted to the case,” Lefakane added.
