Destroy what destroys you

A place where they can put yesterday behind them, and focus on tomorrow.

The Lighthouse On The Horizon is a therapeutic community for the treatment of drug and alcohol abuse and addiction, based in Wilro Park.

It has been in existence for over forty years. It is here that broken people find healing and new hope for the future. Here they discover new meaning for their lives, and new purpose for their existence. They can put yesterday behind them, and focus on tomorrow.

The centre works on a reward-based system, what they call the ‘deserving system’. When patients reach certain goals, they are rewarded with certain privileges. One such privilege is that, generally, after four weeks, family is allowed to visit.

Treatment is usually six to eight weeks, but is flexible, and depends on the individual needs of the patient. Some people stay for as long as six months. Because of this, it is difficult to give an accurate count of how many patients they have at any given time, but they estimate that roughly 100 pass through their doors annually.

The centre is situated at 1 Limonite Street, Wilro Park, Roodepoort. For more information, call 011 764 2396 or 011 768 6881 or send an email to info@lighthousejhb.co.za.
