Tambotie Business Forum means business

All you need to know about the Tambotie Business Forum (TBF) and its role in Randfontein.

The Tambotie Business Forum (TBF), which was founded in February this year, is aiming to improve relations between big contractors and the Small, Micro- and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMMEs) in Randfontein.

The aim of the Forum is to ensure that there is compliance from both parties, and to ensure that enterprises on its database get a fair share of any local development.

“One of our other mandates is to procure work for our people, meaning that locals will benefit from the jobs made available through the Forum,” said Diego Bosman, the secretary of the Forum.

Diego added that the Forum saw the need to formalise business relations in order to minimise the dissatisfaction that often results in protests.

“We are formalising business relations in this area so that we can work with one structure,” he said.

Shaun Pretorius, a TBF member, added that one of the challenges the Forum has is the inability to get certain stakeholders on board.

“It is a challenge to get recognition because we have other forums around us. However, we are a unique forum that is trying to do things in a very neutral and mature manner instead of burning tyres and fighting.

“What we do is to approach a contractor and try to work things out according to the rules and regulations. We want to do things in a professional manner, and relieve the contractor of stress, with the aim of assisting the municipality to get the work done,” he said.

He went on to say that it’s important to show other forums how to operate in a more objective manner, rather than sidelining them.

Diego further advised that the destruction of property as a result of the protests seen recently can be avoided, as long as every member of the community has his fair share.

He continued, saying that the forum also aims to assist local sub-contractors to comply with the relevant regulations.

“In order to achieve compliance from all contractors, we evaluate every profile that we receive and make sure that we direct them towards compliance. We want to make things easier – if someone requests tenders for a contract in our area, we give them a database of suppliers, and they will have to select one of the 45 companies on it for the job,” said Diego.
