Government gives back to Mohlakeng
At least three schools in Mohlakeng benefited during Mandela Day celebrations.
Two schools in Mohlakeng received big donations from government on Mandela Day, while a third received a gift from the public sector.
The Gauteng MEC for Finance, Barbara Creecy, opened a R2,4 million administration block at Mohlakeng Primary School and a Multipurpose Sports Court at Phandulwazi Primary School, also in Mohlakeng. In addition, she presented 10 laptops, donated by ICT firm Tech Mahindra, to Lukhanyo Secondary School.
“Today is the 100th anniversary of the great icon of our struggle, the late former President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. Every year, as a result of the Back to School Campaign, we have identified three schools in Randfontein, particularly in the areas of Mohlakeng and Toekomsrus, and have worked to get them into a better condition, making sure that there’s an opportunity for young people to obtain the digital skills needed to enhance MEC Lesufi’s paperless classroom programme,” she said.
Creecy mentioned that one of the things Nelson Mandela was passionate about was education.
“We use Mandela Day to invest in schools in Rand West City and to make sure that those schools offer a better quality of learning and teaching to all the young people in this area,” she said.
