Police, CPF and EPR swoop on criminal activity

Together we fight to make Randfontein safer – CPF after they joined hands with the police, EPR and others in a Friday night crackdown on crime in Randfontein.

The police, in conjunction with the Community Police Forum (CPF) and local security companies such as EPR Security, as well as Emergency Medical Services drove a massive crime awareness campaign in various sectors of Randfontein on Friday, 20 July.

According to Henry Boyce, the CPF operations coordinator, the areas focused on during the operation were Sectors 3, 4 and 5 and the CBD.

Colonel Rand Makgatho started the campaign with a briefing on the purpose of the operation. He wanted the community to be aware of housebreaking, gate motor theft, vehicle theft and stock theft in these areas.

“We are proud to work hand in hand with our community and other stakeholders in ensuring the safety of the Randfontein community. These operations will be conducted more frequently,” Makgatho said.

All role-players involved want the Randfontein community to be vigilant and aware of basic crime prevention measures, including how to avoid becoming a victim of crime.

According to Boyce, dozens of CPF, EPR Security, police and Netcare vehicles were part of the campaign.

“I want to give a special thank you to the police’s Sergeants Levy Molepo, Wilson Molokomme, and Edward Molefe, and Johan Booysen from EPR Security,” Boyce said.

A total of 83 persons, 11 vehicles and six premises were searched during the operation.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, said 14 arrests were made – some of them as a result of the operation.

“Although not all of these arrests originated from this group operation, it was evident that no serious crimes were reported in the areas in which the group was conducting its patrols. Arrests were effected for dealing in liquor without a licence, possession of drugs and marijuana, driving under the influence of liquor and possession of suspected stolen property,” Ernst added.

Boyce concluded by saying: “Together, we fight to make Randfontein safer.”
