Ebuhleni NPO revamped for kids

The Ebuhleni Home Based Care in Mohlakeng celebrated the completion of three toilets and a shelter added to the soup kitchen on Mandela Day.

It was a big festivity at the Ebuhleni Home Based Care in Mohlakeng on Wednesday, 18 July as the NPO celebrated the completion of three toilets and a shelter added to the soup kitchen.

Catering for 220 children from various parts of Mohlakeng and its surrounding squatter camps, the centre will now be a well-functional facility, and will be issued a certificate by the Gauteng Department of Health.

Founder of the centre, Nzimeni Funeka said, “As we are honouring the father of the nation, Nelson Mandela, we want to show the whole community that there is much greatness that can be done for our children, especially those who are needy.

“I felt the greater need to revamp the centre, so that children can be well taken care of. As we all know, it takes a whole community to raise a child,” Funeka added.

West Rand District Municipality Mayor, Boyce Maleni said the municipality had made a commitment to helping revamp the facility and even though there were no funds available immediately, an end goal was reached.

“We had to look for partners that could help. So in the true spirit of Nelson Mandela, we never asked for the money, we got Elias Macheje who helped with the reconstruction on the centre,” Maleni added.
