New ANC Regional Executive Committee chosen

New ANC Regional Executive Committee for the West Rand region elected

A new African National Congress (ANC) Regional Executive Committee for the West Rand region was elected at a conference that took place from 6 to 8 July.

The conference was held in West Porges, Randfontein, under the theme of ‘Unity, Renewal and Repositioning the West Rand Region – A better West Rand Region in the making’. This conference will only take place once every three years.

Footage of the conference and interviews with members of the committee were televised on DSTV channel 265 on 10 July.

The primary purpose of the conference was to elect its leadership and come up with important resolutions that will be used to advance the socio-economic imperatives of the people of the West Rand Region in the next three years.

Sanele Ngweventsha said that he was happy to be re-elected onto the Regional Executive Committee.

“We are very excited about the new term and have already hit the ground running,” he said.

“I am proud that we ended the conference as a united region. The community can expect a lot because most of the municipalities in the region are ANC. We have made resolutions not to compromise on the delivery of basic services. We are taking a stand as a united region and we will be visible in the community.”

The conference elected the following comrades to serve on the Regional Executive Committee: Maphefo Letsie (regional chairperson), Dennis Thabe (regional deputy chairperson), Sanele Ngweventsha (regional secretary), Francis Makgatho (regional deputy secretary) and Brenda Mahuma (regional treasurer).

“The ANC on the West Rand prides itself on the election of a woman chairperson – Maphefo is the second woman elected to this position,” Ngweventsha said.
