West Rand Toastmasters inducts new committee members

Some awards were also presented on the night

The West Rand Toastmasters recently inducted their new Executive Committee (Exco) members during an induction ceremony.

The evening was kicked off by Esther Dreyer, who welcomed everyone at the meeting and read out the Minutes of the previous meeting. Lynette Harris was the Toastmaster for the evening, and also proposed the toast of the evening, which was in remembrance of Jack Hartmann, a distinguished Toastmaster, as well as a previous West Rand Toastmasters president, who passed away.

The outgoing president’s speech was given by Malcolm Harris. Before Elaine O’Gorman performed the induction ceremony for the new Exco members, she also thanked the outgoing committee for their previous contribution to the club. The members are Esther Dreyer (President), Lynette Harris (Vice-president: Education), Max Kaan (Vice-president: Membership), Glen Campbell (Vice-president: Public Relations), Stephanie Watkins (Secretary and Treasurer), Ernest Watkins (Sergeant-at-Arms) and Malcolm Harris (Immediate Past President).

Before the evening was brought to a close, some awards were also given out. Alwyn vanWyngaarden received the award for the Toastmaster of the Year, Claude Joshua won the award for the Most Improved Toastmaster and Curtis Kester won the Ben Subke Award for the Most Proactive Toastmaster.

The evening was concluded with Esther’s Incoming President’s Speech, during which she compared her Toastmasters’ journey to a train journey that gave her the opportunity to meet the most wonderful and interesting people, some who also became mentors and best friends.

She concluded by thanking her fellow Toastmasters for having the confidence in her and said, “Toastmasters is about personal growth and building self-esteem. This year we will make a concerted effort to grow our Club. We are all put on this Earth for a purpose and if you do not know what your purpose is, find out. During our lifetime we need to create good memories, and this can be done at Toastmasters.”For more information about the West Rand Toastmasters Club, contact Glen Campbell on 073 538 9560 or glencampbell@telkomsa.net.
