Fun Walk for the traumatised

A Quanta Fun Walk fundraiser was held during the weekend to help the traumatised in the Randfontein community.

Dynamic Transformation and Health hosted a Quanta Fun Walk fundraiser during the weekend to help the traumatised in the Randfontein community.

The fun walk kicked off at the Culemborg Centre at 8.30am on Saturday, 30 June, with participants walking 8,39 km in total.

Louis van der Westhuizen, the CEO of Dynamic Transformation and Health, organised the fundraiser. Nicolene Hörnemann, Mrs Randfontein Charity 2018, was also very involved with the fundraiser as she identified areas of need in the community.

Louis left Randfontein after school, but recently returned and realised that there was a need for a neurolinguistic programme to help people who were traumatised.

“Our main focus is traumatised women and children. I started the NPO to help these people. The Quanta Fun Walk is our first fundraiser and we hoped that it would make a difference in someone’s life,” Louis said.

According to Louis, they are going to use the charity as a platform to heal the traumatised with the use of therapy, music, and meditation. “We want to change the way they think, feel, see, hear and speak, because that determines a person’s future. That’s how neurolinguistics works,” Louis said.

Louis said that 40 people took part in the fun walk. “We expected a lot more people but we appreciate how many people turned up as it took place during the school holidays.”

The Herald met a few of the participants. Celeste Strydom braved the cold because she would like to help raise funds for the less privileged. “I also want to show my support for Mrs Randfontein Charity,” Celeste added.

Eight-year-old Monique Viviers said that she thinks the fundraiser is a fun way to stay active during the school holidays. “I was really excited that today had finally come,” she said.

Louis said that their next step is to get residents from Randfontein, Krugersdorp, and Roodepoort together for another fundraiser.

There was also great entertainment during the fundraiser. Photo: Jaco-Mari Futcher.

“Our ultimate goal is to get premises where we can hold regular meetings to empower the community and teach them how to deal with certain social issues. We want people to come to us for help,” Louis added.

Great entertainment, a car show, and food stalls were also available during the fundraiser.
