Two killed in Mohlakeng pedestrian incident

A motorist faces culpable homicide charges after killing two, injuring three others during the weekend.

Two people died and three others were left seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in Moiloa Street, Mohlakeng on Sunday, 1 July.

The incident happened at about 2.30pm.

Police said upon their arrival at the scene they found a red Chevrolet Spark that had been abandoned by its driver at the scene of the accident.

“Police members found two deceased pedestrians and three more with serious injuries. The deceased were removed to the Government Mortuary while the three injured pedestrians were transported to a local hospital,” said Captain Appel Ernst, the Randfontein Police spokesperson.

Ernst added that the investigation into the matter resulted in the arrest of a suspect shortly after the incident.

“He will be appearing in court soon, facing charges of culpable homicide. The police are urging witnesses to this tragedy to come forward in order to give an account of the incident.”
