EFF unhappy with healthcare

EFF members marched to Mohlakeng Clinic demanding proper healthcare. A number of other issues were also raised.

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members handed over a memorandum to the executive management at the Mohlakeng Clinic on Thursday, 28 June, demanding proper healthcare.

A number of other issues were also raised.

Puleng Muso, the West Rand District Health Director, received the memorandum from Bethuel Munyai and Tumi Mousi, both EFF councillors in the Rand West City and West Rand District municipalities. Many EFF members were seen marching with a big banner with the face of Fidel Castro on it, and reading ‘True socialist’.

Conditions at the local clinic were described by EFF members as a ‘living hell’. It was also indicated in the memorandum that, “The West Rand community is underprivileged, under-employed, marginalised, economically downtrodden and alienated with no access to proper healthcare and the Mohlakeng Clinic does not provide basic services to the community. The management and those responsible have failed to deliver services to the community.”

The EFF further demands the restoration of the EMS service, pointed out drug and paracetamol dispensing errors, that patients are not getting treatment after their condition has changed, that there is no privacy and dignity for the patients, the bad attitude of the nursing staff and doctors, poor service of emergency call and numbers, poor service at the clinic, mistreatment of pregnant women, children, old people and people with disabilities as well as unbearable and unattended long queues at the clinic.

Bethuel Munyai led EFF marchers to the Mohlakeng MOU Clinic to hand over a memorandum about the bad service at the clinic.

In response to the memorandum, Muso committed herself and the District Health Department to the contents of the memorandum. She referred to the EFF as foot soldiers on the ground who can point out challenges that management cannot directly see.

“We will give you answers in the stipulated time. We acknowledge your memo and we will respond accordingly. Your concerns are genuine,” she said.

The EFF has given the clinic 10 working days to respond in writing.
