Welma Bam aims to assist cancer sufferers and their families

As the second princess in the recent Mrs Randfontein pageant, and crowned Mrs Choc Randfontein, Welma realised that helping children with cancer was her calling.

Since she was little a girl, Welma Bam of Greenhills has always wanted to do something for the greater good, but has never been sure where to start.

When the 29-year-old was selected as the second princess in the recent Mrs Randfontein pageant, and crowned Mrs Choc Randfontein, she realised that helping children with cancer was her calling.

Welma said that after seeing the suffering of the children and their families, she wanted to do more.

Welma is now raising funds via her platform as Mrs Choc Randfontein, and has thus far managed to raise R5 000.

She said she had never thought she would play such an important role. “You actually get to see what the families and the patients are going through, and that was truly sad for me.

“I think that when I was crowned Mrs Choc, a whole new world was opened up for me, because then I was able to start working with people in this position,” Welma said.

Wilma said even though Choc is relatively new to her, the organisation is playing a role in society that she is proud of it.

She went on to say that since she has become involved with the organisation, she has learned so much about the needs of cancer sufferers. She said every day she counts her blessings, because she is grateful for her healthy life. She also said most people take their good health for granted.

“Every day we wake up, we need to give thanks to the Lord, and just be healthy and safe with our families. We are privileged to be able to get up, dress up, and show up, and I think if cancer sufferers could do all this, they would strive to do so. Unfortunately their sickness hinders them.”

Welma said she’s dedicating her life to Choc, as helping those living with cancer is close to her heart. “I have so much respect for the people struggling with cancer as they are going through difficult times.”
