Five people died and six others were injured in two separate accidents during the weekend.

In the first incident, two people were killed and five others sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate after two vehicles collided on Blybank Road in Carletonville on Saturday, 23 June.

According to Ineke van Huyssteen, ER24 spokesperson, ER24 paramedics arrived at 10pm and found a vehicle on the road and another vehicle partially in the veld nearby. Two people were trapped in the vehicle and were declared dead on scene.

“Five others were found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries,” Van Huyssteen confirmed.

ER24 and another medical service on scene transported the patients to the hospital for further medical care.

In the second collision, three people were killed and one sustained moderate injuries. ER24 paramedics came across the second incident early on Sunday morning, 24 June. A vehicle had rolled on the P111/ R501 road in Carletonville.

“Paramedics stopped at the scene at approximately 3am and found several patients lying across the road. It is believed that they were ejected from the vehicle. Three people were declared dead at the scene,” Ineke said.

Another medical service on scene transported the remaining victim to the hospital for further medical care.

Ineke said that the exact circumstances surrounding these incidents were not known to the paramedics, but police were on the scene for further investigations.
