Young teen gang-raped by three men

Manhunt launched for at least three men after a 14-year-old girl from Simunye was gang-raped during the weekend.

“While Youth Day was being celebrated on 16 June,” said a police spokesperson, “a 14-year-old girl from Simunye was being gang-raped.”

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, said the incident happened at about 3.30pm as the victim was walking along a street in Simunye on her way to visit a friend.

“She was accosted by three men in a VW Polo. It is alleged the vehicle stopped in front of her and one man threatened her with a knife and instructed her to get into the vehicle.

“Inside the vehicle were two other men, one of whom had a firearm. The vehicle allegedly drove to Randfontein where the victim was blindfolded. The three men then took turns raping her.

“They then gave her water to wash and later told her to go. The victim managed to get a lift back home and told her mother what had happened. The matter was reported to the police and we are investigating a case of kidnapping and rape.”
