Suitcases galore for the needy

A business breakfast was held in Helikonpark all in the name of charity.

Representatives of sixty West Rand businesses were treated to breakfast at Tetelestai on the morning of Friday, 8 June in aid of a good cause.

This was a fundraising initiative which resulted in 100 school suitcases being purchased and donated to four schools in Randfontein.

Having breakfast while helping the needy – Leon Meyer, George Neunoff, and Herman Gigiano.

Koekoes Cordier, Project Manager of the Open Door Foundation, said the breakfast was held to make the organisation’s needs known.

“They assisted us to collect enough money to fulfill our dream, which is to look after the children so that they are safe and stay in school,” she said.

“Some of the sponsors do not only give us financial help – they provide services too. For example, one of our sponsors is a builder who will lay foundations for us if we decide to build something in the community.”

Cordier added, “The school suitcases will be given to children who cannot afford to buy their own at Rappies, Ram, Avante and West Gold. They will also be packed with stationery items the children will need.

“Each filled suitcase will cost R1 500,” she said as she thanked all the sponsor who were part of the event.

Working for a good cause – Project Manager of the Open Door Foundation, Koekoes Cordier and Reginah Marole.

“I think the turnout today was very good. I want to thank all our sponsors because we would not have been able to buy everything ourselves,” she said.

Leon Meyer said the Open Door Foundation was established with the purpose of making a difference in communities.

“We need to make a difference, so that children have better lives,” Meyer said.
