Following the shootout which occurred at Village Square Shopping Centre two days ago, management at the centre has released a statement.
The Herald reported on Thursday that the Randfontein Police are investigating a case of business burglary and attempted murder following a shootout between suspects and security at a local mall during the morning of Wednesday, 6 June.

Maxine Oberholzer, Marketing Manager for Village Square Shopping Centre said, “Village Square Shopping Centre can confirm that an armed robbery occurred at about 5.43am on Wednesday, 6 June.
“Armed suspects forced entry into the Centre, and gained access to a store, obtaining an undisclosed amount of merchandise. Village Square Fidelity Security Services and EPR Security attended to the scene.
“The suspects opened fire while exiting the Centre and escaped in an unidentified vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Safety of all patrons and shoppers is, and always remains, the Centre’s top priority and we will continue to remain alert.
“The matter has been handed over to the police for further investigation. Please be advised that, to avoid compromising the case, full details of the incident cannot be disclosed to the public.”
