Drugs found in car, five arrested

Police arrested five people for being in possession of drugs found in their vehicle yesterday.

Police in Bekkersdal have arrested five people for being in possession of drugs. Their ages range from 27 and 39 years.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said the incident happened on Thursday afternoon (7 June) at about 1.40pm.

“Constables Strike Magoro and Phillys Ngobeni were conducting their routine patrol duties around the N12 when they spotted a white Golf with five occupants.

“They allegedly stopped the vehicle and requested to search the occupants and their vehicle. At the back seat the officers found four sealed transparent plastic bags containing pills. All the occupants claimed they knew nothing about the pills. They were all placed under arrest and will be charged with possession thereof.”

They are expected to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon.

Colonel Tinus Swart, Westonaria Police station commander applauded the members for a job well done.

“This is the kind of patrol skill I expect from all field officers,” he said.
