Crime picking up this winter

Security company EPR on a number of crimes that took place in Randfontein recently.

EPR Security reported on a number of crimes that had been committed in Randfontein recently.

Last Monday (28 May) at 10.35pm they received a call from a client on Jan Fiskaal Street in Helikon Park who said that while not at home, neighbours called to inform that there was a stranger on his premises.

At the address EPR reaction officer Engelbrecht noted that the gate-motor padlock was damaged. He entered the premises and arrested the suspect that was hiding underneath a bush.

Part of the padlock and tools used to steal gate motors were found in the suspect’s possession. The suspect was handed over to the Randfontein Police for further investigation.

“Well done to members of the public for their vigilance and assistance in containing the suspect on the premises,” said EPR operational manager, Mac van Zyl.

The security company officers also attended the scene of a robbery in Jakaranda Street, Homelake.

In addition they responded to a panic signal about a robbery in Smuts Street, Randgate involving three suspects. Another robbery took place at Elandsvlei, with two suspects involved.

During last week’s protests, various shops in Mohlakeng and Toekomsrus were vandalised and plundered.

There was an incident of arson at the Wheatlands Agricultural Holdings where three rooms caught fire. The Community Policing Forum also communicated to EPR that there was an attempted break-in at Hillside Agricultural Holdings, where a lock was damaged.

Another break-in was reported on Geldenhuys Street in Randpoort. In Westonaria there was a case of theft on McGregor Street involving one suspect who was arrested after he had allegedly stolen goods from a store.
