Get to know a ‘Teiner # 66 – Marriam Ndlovu

The 66th person in the Herald's Get to know a Randfonteiner project introduces herself.

Meet Marriam Ndlovu of Mohlakeng, the newly appointed Grade 1 and Grade 2 Setswana teacher at Laerskool Randfontein.

The 48-year-old, who was born in Cape Town, said when she joined the school, she worked as a cleaner for almost a decade.

On Tuesday, 29 May, Marriam was afforded an opportunity to interact even more with people, more especially with children at the school.

“I am someone who is really flexible and who can multitask. Ever since I was appointed as a Setswana teacher, I help with translating whenever necessary,” Marriam said.

She also said she is proud of herself, as she is facilitating an understanding of the Setswana language for everyone at the school, and doing her part by ensuring that the new South Africa that she has always dreamed of, comes true.

She said she’s proud to be part of a generation where white learners are able to speak Setswana.

In her spare time, Marriam enjoys watching television, especially rugby, and attending her church’s services.

“I also like baking scones and selling them in order to supplement my salary, but most of all, I really enjoy being part of the school staff,” Marriam added.
