• 26 May: Miniature Showcase in Parkhurst

Miniaturists in Gauteng come from all walks of life, and all areas, and encompass a love of all things small. Miniature Showcase is where artisans showcase their work in the Miniature World. Get to the Parkhurst Recreation Centre between 9am and 12.30pm to support the cause. Miniatures, dollhouse accessories and supplies available. • 26 May: Deutsche Schule Basar in Parktown

This brilliant festival once again takes place on the school grounds in Parktown. Unlike many other festivals, this one really does cater for the whole family. This event promises to be the ultimate German experience. There are beer stalls, big screen TVs for the sports fans, plenty of rides and attraction for the kids, and traditional German cuisine. • 27 May: ToyZone Kids Cycle Race 2018 at Melrose Arch

The ToyZone Kids Cycle Race 2018 at Melrose Arch is all about fitness and fun, and a great way to entertain the kids and family. With four age categories from which to choose (ages 3 months to 13 years), the Cycle Race and fun day also includes medals and goodie bags for every participant, jumping castles, balloon modellers, face painters and candy floss, and so much more! Remember – helmets are a must and your kid won’t be allowed into the race without one. All proceeds from the ToyZone Kids Cycle Challenge 2018 will be donated to the Smile Foundation, a South African NGO that assists children with treatable facial anomalies such as facial paralysis, cleft lip and cleft palate, craniofacial abnormalities, ear, nose and hand conditions, and burn wounds. Last year, over 2 000 blankets were collected by clubs and their families and distributed, along with groceries and clothing, to under-privileged communities to combat the harsh winter months in Gauteng. • 1 June: Winter Ablaze Concert in Randburg

The Winter Ablaze Concert at the Berario Recreation Centre aims to bring together children and parents and also lets parents witness their children’s talent while at it. • 1 to 16 June: Woza Albert The Play at Joburg Theatre

This play was written during the Apartheid era, as a form of protest theatre, which was confrontational. It brought up the sensitive subjects of Apartheid, such as inequality. The play was written by Mbongeni Ngema, Barney Simon and Percy Mtwa. It touches on a lot of sensitive issues which need addressing. It also portrays a time in South Africa where the only thing people could turn to was religion. Be sure to check out this show and learn more about the history of South Africa. • 1 June: Just in Time Golf Day in Robinson, Randfontein

The Just in Time Baby Sanctuary is hosting a fundraising golf day on Friday 1 June at the Randfontein Golf Club, between 11am and 1pm. Participant fees will be R2 000 per 4-ball. There will be cash prizes, a sports auction and live entertainment, besides the 18 holes of golf. There will also be a three-course meal at the prize-giving, so the day should be a lot of fun. This year marks the 16th Magalies Monster MTB Classic. The FNB Magalies Monster routes provide all the hallmarks of a truly South African mountain bike race, featuring all the ingredients that a quality mountain bike race should have. The FNB Magalies Monster is ideal for all mountain bikers. Entrants can choose between a 15km Fun Ride, the 35km “Half Monster” and the 70km “Ultimate Monster”. The event is affectionately named after the “Monster”, a gruelling 6km climb up the northern slope of the Magaliesberg which riders of the 70km route encounter. The Magalies Monster gives riders the chance to experience the real beauty of the Magaliesberg mountains and the amazing rock formations of the area.
