The bonds between the Randfontein Police and the CPF were strengthened on Thursday night, 23 May.

The evening started with Henry Boyce, the chairperson of the Community Policing Forum (CPF) 5A, handing jackets to his members. Brigadier Jacob Manamela, the Randfontein Police station commander, and Colonel Rand Makgatho also received jackets. The jackets were kindly sponsored by Rudi Lund from Lund Afslaers, who is also a member of the CPF.

Randfontein station commander, Brigadier Jacob Manamela, received his jacket from Henry Boyce.

Colonel Makgatho and Brigadier Manamela both addressed the members about various issues. They also thanked the CPF for their support in keeping the community safe.

“I am proud of you,” Makgatho said. He added that the Randfontein Police and CPF cannot leave the community to suffer. “We have to keep on working together to fight crime. One crime is too many, but together we can make it,” he added.

Chairperson of the Sector 5A CPF, Henry Boyce.

Manamela touched on subjects like stock theft and stop and search operations, and said illegal immigrants are a huge problem. He pointed out that residents will be fined if the police find that they have employed illegal immigrants. He also mentioned that the police need to be informed of all possible leads, drug dealers and any crime-related activity. He also said that it is very important that stock farmers mark their stock, as this is the only way the owners can be traced after a theft.

The members of the CPF were asked to raise any issues they might have in an open question and answer session, and addressed each issue.

Henry Boyce also gave Brigadier Manamela a jacket.

Manamela said the police face a lot of challenges, but they are doing everything they can to do the best they can. However, residents must play their part too, for instance, they must be vigilant and, especially on the farms and plots, must make sure their gates are closed.

He also mentioned that the police run many operations aimed at educating the community, and the community must be informed of criminal activity.

Colonel Rand Makgatho also attended the event.

Manamela also highlighted the positives, for example that the crime rate in Toekomsrus has decreased. “However, criminals are more active from Thursdays to Sundays, so residents need to remain alert,” he said.
