Botle’s star for public speaking shines

"The quality and standards of public speakers are extremely high these days," said Botle's mother, Sindiswa Mofoma.

The 12-year-old Botle Mofana has an outstanding talent for public speaking. She has been competing in public speaking competitions for the last two years.

Botle said she loves public speaking because she likes to talk and to give her opinion on subjects.

Her topic of Cyberbulling (bullying via social media, etcetera) has won her a diamond award in the category Public Speaking at Raca in October 2017. She qualified for the Provincial auditions in Pretoria, where she qualified for participation at the South African Championship of Performing Arts (Sacopa) in Rustenburg. She left Rustenburg with a gold for Public Speaking.

“The quality and standards of public speakers are extremely high these days,” said Botle’s mother, Sindiswa Mofoma. Speakers are allowed only 90 seconds to present their speeches.

On 8 April Botle received the astonishing news of an invitation to Los Angeles to represent South Africa at the World Championship of Performing Arts from 2 to18 July. “My wife and daughter phoned me while I was at work, and they were both shouting for joy,” her father Daniel said.

Not all those who were awarded gold for Public Speaking at the nationals get to go to Los Angeles – only those who achieve gold and more than 95 per cent. Therefore being invited to the World Championship is a great achievement.

Botle’s parents told the Herald about the enormous amount this golden opportunity will cost. Therefore they are appealing to businesses and the community to help them raise funds. Please contact Sindiswa on 073 689 5133.
