Pensioner stuck with blocked drain since 2017

The Moshoshoe family have had to put up with the smell of their blocked drain for many months.

For seven months, Finbury pensioner Malea Moshoshoe has been living with a blocked drain outside her house. Moshoshoe said since they moved in in 2001 the drain has been a problem.

It is now affecting her health and she is desperate to have the stubborn drain unblocked. “We tried unblocking it ourselves by pouring chemicals into it, but nothing seems to be working.

“I have no idea what to do anymore; I have even asked local people to assist me, but they were unable to unblock it. The smell is very unpleasant and I fear for our health,” Moshoshoe said.

The 66-year-old who lives with her husband, also a pensioner, said they are restricted as far as doing their house chores are concerned because their yard is often flooded with grey water.

“I can’t even wash the dishes in the sink because it creates another mess,” Moshoshoe lamented.

“We have reported this to the municipality on several occasions, but there has not been any response,” she added.
