Thousands to pray for peace in Gauteng

Over 5 000 residents expected at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg for a prayer meeting today (26 April).

Over 5 000 residents are expected to heed the call by the Gauteng Provincial Government and leaders of faith to gather at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg for a prayer meeting, the Gauteng Department of Social Development said.

Nandi Mayathula-Khoza, Social Development MEC said Thursday’s prayer meeting at 10am will be hosted by the Gauteng Department of Social Development in partnership with the Office of the Speaker of Gauteng Legislature, Office of the Premier and the Faith-Based Organisations (FBOs).

“The prayer is an invitation for divine intervention as our society battles social ills including rampant abuse of substances, all forms of violence in communities, random murders of women and children, harvesting of body parts especially of children who suffer from albinism, femicide, rape of women and children including toddlers.

“As government, we have always believed that the Creator would always guide us in all that we do. As such, we have relied on prayer when we are confronted by challenges as big as those we face today,” she said.

Gauteng Premier David Makhura and Moral Regeneration Movement Chairperson Father Smangaliso Mkhatshwa will address the Prayer Meeting.
