Let’s not abandon the abandoned

Just In Time Baby Sanctuary needs your help to continue taking care of abandoned, abused and neglected babies.

Despite their financial challenges, Just in Time continues to care for babies who are abandoned, abused and neglected.

Georginia Caetano, Just In Time Baby Sanctuary CEO and founder said that although their babies are blessed, financial support is much needed. With a golf day to be held at the Randfontein Country Club on 1 June, she is pleading for further assistance.

“We would like to invite individuals and companies to participate and assist us financially so that we can continue taking care of babies.

We are currently only permitted to care for six babies at a time, but we have great plans to expand during 2018, so that we can help more babies.

“The operating costs of this project are astronomical. They currently run at R35 000 per month and will increase to R70 000 once we have expanded. This is why it is of utmost importance for us to launch regular fundraising initiatives such as this. We receive zero financial support from the government and rely solely on the generosity of the public and corporates. We hope that you will participate in this project in order to help us make a difference in the lives of helpless babies. We are a public benefit organisation which entitles us to issue Section 18A certificate to donors to claim from SARS.”

An application form for the golf day is available on our website www.randfonteinherald.co.za, under the headline Play golf for abandoned infants.

She said the money is needed for rent, electricity, salaries, insurance, fuel, security, maintenance, medical costs and groceries.

She explained further they currently care for six abandoned, abused and neglected babies with another newborn expected soon. Two of them are one year old, another is two, there’s a three-year-old, and two babies of five and three months respectively. All of them have tear-jerking histories to how they were born or got here.

Georginia said, “One of the girls we are looking after was an attempted abortion baby and would’ve died, but she was saved because she weighed 1kg at birth. A one-year-old boy had severe acute malnutrition from birth. His organs were failing and they didn’t think he was going to make it. We have another baby born with a drug addiction as the mother was a tik user.”

“My faith is big but the past two weeks have been really hard. I run things on my own and was ready to give up, but I know this is my calling. My ultimate goal is to find good foster parents or adoptive parents for these children. This is my life, this is my purpose.”

Helene du Plessis, a 37-year-old working mom is an example of the many Randfonteiners to have reached out to Just in Time and also pleads with the community to assist. Helene decided to get involved as she believes one must give back and cannot just expect to receive. She is also an avid animal- and child-lover. She recently posted a list of the items one can donate to Just in Time on Facebook. The list includes cleaning materials, toiletries, baby milk, food and clothing. Just in Time is also in need of a fence for the swimming pool, a gas stove, a heater and promotional material.
