Dolls knitted in the name of Madiba

Project launched in Greenhills all in the name of Nelson Mandela!

All hands were on deck when 14 grannies of the Randfontein Middlevlei Branch of the Vroue Landbou Unie dedicated their time to preparing for the 67 Minutes for Mandela campaign by knitting 60 dolls to give to the children in Baragwanath Hospital, in Soweto.

Today was the launch of the project, and thirty dolls have already been knitted.

“We are going to participate in the 67 minutes for Mandela campaign, which celebrates the late former statesman’s birthday. We are not only giving the dolls to Baragwanath Hospital – we will also be giving them to other hospitals that are located nearer to Randfontein,” said Hannetjie Stadler, one of the members of the project.

Stadler said the purpose of the initiative is to give 67 minutes of your time for Mandela and celebrate the gift he has given to South Africa with the children.

“Mandela was also gift to us as a nation. Every year we dedicate our time to doing something specific, such as participating in projects that benefit local communities. This year we are anticipating that our campaign will be a big success.”

Asked why they started working on the project this early, Stadler said, “We started early because when you are little bit older you need more time to do the work.”
