N12 under heavy police guard

Expect a heavy police presence on the N12 from now on following a spate of hijackings.

The Bekkersdal Police are to deploy more police officers and vehicles in an operation that will be concentrating on putting the N12 under guard.

They said this move is in response to the spate of hijackings that have occurred on the road recently.

“The officers will be based on the road, with marked vehicles and in full police uniform, around the clock,” said Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson.

Motorists are also warned to be vigilant when driving on the road.

“Motorists are urged to not to stop next to the road. They should rather drive to the nearby filling stations if there is a need for them to stop,” said the police.

Brigadier Abraham Nkhwashu, the station commander, has vowed to bring down the crime rate on the N12. “I will not rest until this area is declared a crime-free zone,” he said.
