Tragic accident victim defies all odds

At first, all the odds seemed to be stacked against Dewald Pretorius of Greenhills after his tragic accident in 2007. Today, Dewald is proud of having made a name for himself as a disabled athlete.

Dewald Pretorius’ tragic accident in 2007 left him in a coma for 18 days. However, he shines in disabled person’s sports.

The accident left the 35-year-old partially paralysed, with poor balance, and his prospects of becoming sportsman looked bleak. Today, Dewald is proud of having made a name for himself as a disabled athlete.

Dewald said the highlight of his athletics career was when he bagged a couple of medals last year at the 2017 Nedbank National Championships for the Physically Disabled in Port Elizabeth.
