Ram donates to SPCA

A total 532,2 kg of dog and cat food packs were donated to the Randfontein SPCA thanks to Laerskool Randfontein.

Laerskool Randfontein (Ram) has a heart for animals. This was evident when the school donated 532,2kg of dog and cat food to the Randfontein SPCA on Monday, 26 March.

They called it a simple token of appreciation towards the SPCA for its efforts to ensure the well-being of the animals and for loving and nurturing them.

“We felt that we wanted to do something for our local community and the SPCA, among other, came to mind,” said Robbie van Coller, one of the organisers of the project.

Robbie said the project took seven weeks to complete and the children showed commitment throughout to making it a success.

“We did not have any major sponsors on board; the children themselves were driving the project. They brought their contributions to school on a daily basis,” he said.

Randfontein SPCA trainee inspector, Rene van Straten said, “We are extremely grateful. What the school has done for us is much appreciated. I cannot speak for the cats and dogs in our care, but I am sure they are as grateful as we are.

“We are also happy to know that there are people who think about us and recognise the sometimes difficult job we do. We hope that this is not the last community effort to help us.”

She said the donated food will enable them to feed the animals in their care for three months.

“We thank each and every Rammie and all the parents for their great support for this cause. Hopefully the residents of Randfontein will join this cause and help the SPCA to do its job – caring for our precious animals,” Robbie said.

Those who wish to donate can contact the SPCA Randfontein on 011 412 3114.
