Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said, “The Bekkersdal Intervention Unit arrested two suspects aged 23 and 42 years respectively, for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, following information supplied by the community.

“Sergeant Libudi Nong and Constable Jeffrey Manganyi were conducting their routine crime prevention duties around Bekkersdal when they received a tip-off about two men in possession of firearms. They proceeded to the address and found two suspects in two separate shacks.

“The members allegedly requested permission to search and the one firearm was found under the pillow where one suspect was sleeping.

The other was found on the second suspect’s waist. Both suspects were arrested and charged with being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.”

Both made a brief appearance in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court the following day.

Colonel Abraham Nkhwashu, the Bekkersdal Police station commander, applauded the members for job well done and thanked the members of the community for the information.

“Our members will continue with this kind of operation to ensure that the Bekkersdal policing precinct is safe for everyone.”
