Burglar jailed for five years

Case closed! Man gets five years for burglary in Toekomsrus.

A case of burglary, which occurred on 10 January this year, has been successfully concluded in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, “A burglary was committed in Madeliefie Street where a 79-year-old pensioner resides with her 32-year-old grandson. A suspect broke into the room occupied by the grandson and stole numerous items, including a home theatre system and several DVDs.

“Two suspects were arrested shortly after the incident but one of the men could not be linked to the case. The second accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for burglary.”

Constable Nono Boikanyo, the investigating officer, was also praised for the successful conclusion of the case.

“As a team, the investigating officer, prosecutor and the Magistrate ensured that a burglar will be incarcerated for at least five years. Good teamwork and excellent investigation ensured this success,” added Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela, the Randfontein Police station commander.
