JUST IN: Couple shot while sleeping

Local police say a couple was shot while sleeping in their Westonaria home.

A couple sustained shots to their upper and lower bodies while sleeping in their shack at the Speruperu informal settlement yesterday, 19 March.

According to Warrant Officer Raymond Sebonyane, Westonaria Police spokesperson, “Shortly after midnight on Monday, a couple were asleep when unknown men started shooting randomly at their shack. Both victims were shot in the upper and lower body and were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. At this stage the motive for the shooting is unknown.”

Sebonyane also said, “It is further alleged that the community of Speruperu went on a rapid search for the suspects. The Westonaria and Bekkersdal Police responded together with the West Rand Flying Squad, and the K9 unit. The Police Airwing also joined the search and but unfortunately at this stage no arrests have been made. The contingent of police members is still searching for the suspects”.

The Westonaria Police are now appealing to the community at large to come forward with any credible information that might assist in this matter.
