Woman stabbed, 22 050 milliliters of alcohol confiscated

Drama at shebeens: Woman stabbed, more than 22 000 milliliters of alcohol confiscated in Randfontein.

Bekkersdal Police had their hands full at various shebeens and taverns in the area this past weekend.

First, a 33-year-old woman was arrested for assault with intent to do grievously bodily harm after she stabbed another woman with a knife. The incident happened at about 7am.

“It is alleged the woman and the victim had an argument over liquor.

The victim decided to go to another tavern but the suspect followed her and without saying a word the suspect took out a knife and stabbed the victim in her face,” said Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson.

The victim was taken to the Bekkersdal West Clinic for medical attention and later transferred to Leratong Hospital.

A case of assault was reported and the suspect was arrested the next day, Sunday, 18 March.

It’s said assaults related from liquor outlets has been a challenge for the Bekkersdal policing precinct.

Lefakane added that five outlets were visited and fines for none compliance were issued, while one closed and about 22 050 milliliters of alcohol confiscated.

Offences such as driving under the influence and possession of dagga were also policed.

It’s said all arrested suspects already made their court appearances in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court.
