Career in auditing for a young learner

She also dreams of being a Chartered Accountant one day

Osego Skalkie now knows that she wishes to pursue a career in auditing. The Grade 12 learner attended the West Rand Career Exhibition this week, and said the exhibition has also helped her realise that her matric subjects are aligned with her dream career.

The 19-year-old who attends the Letsatsing Combined School in Carletonville said she is passionate about numbers.

“I love Accounting and Mathematics. I think the ideal tertiary institution for me to study at is the University of Pretoria.

Firstly I will study towards a BCom Internal Auditing degree, then I will pursue chartered accountancy.

“One of my dreams is becoming a CA one day, but first, I believe auditing will pave the way for me,” she said.

She said the idea behind studying auditing is her curiosity about running an official inspection of companies.

“I believe there should be transparency everywhere and that auditing can play a significant role in achieving that,” she explained.

As far as meeting the requirements to study auditing, Skalkie said, “I am quite confident that I will make it this year, because every day I work very hard to achieve this goal. I am well aware of the fact that it will take sacrifices and compromises to achieve this goal; but I am determined to make it work.”

She said the career exhibition gave her more insight into what she will focus on, and said she is looking forward to making a name for herself and working her way up.

“Mathematics is the only subject that I need to work on extra hard, and I need to commit myself,” she said.
