Mob justice – suspect dies

Everyone is afforded the opportunity to have a fair trial – Brigadier Manamela.

A burglary on Sunday,4 March at approximately 1am, resulted in the death of an alleged 39-year-old suspect.

“It is alleged by the complainant in the burglary case that she returned home to find her shack being burgled and the alleged suspect badly injured in the street.” said Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein police.

He was allegedly caught by community members at the burgled house.

The injured man was removed to a local hospital, suffering from head injuries. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries the same evening.

The Randfontein station commander,Brigadier Jacob Manamela expressed his dissatisfaction with this state of affairs.

“The police strongly condemn any action of mob justice. Everyone is afforded the opportunity to have a fair trial. Communities who take the law into their own hands will have to face the consequences of their actions,” he said.
