Breaking: Alleged road-rage incident – One man critical

"The taxi skipped the traffic light and swerved from the left lane into the right lane" – Eyewitness.

At about 12pm today (15 march), a man was left in a critical but stable condition following an alleged road-rage incident involving a taxi.

The Rand West City Traffic Department officers were the first ones on the scene, followed by ER24 paramedics who attended to the victim. Netcare 911, the Randfontein Fire Department, Help24, Rand West City Safety and various other emergency services personnel also attended the scene.

When the Herald arrived, an eyewitness, Reabetsoe Koebe, said she saw everything that had happened, as she was driving behind the vehicles involved in the incident.

“The taxi skipped the traffic light and swerved from the left lane into the right lane, passing various vehicles that were trying to move out of the way of the speeding taxi. A red bakkie was in the middle lane, driving slower than all the vehicles that managed to avoid the taxi. The taxi hit it from behind and the bakkie driver lost control and ended up crashing into a tree.” Koebe said.

The driver and passengers of the taxi were not injured. The victim was taken to Lenmed Hospital by an ER24 ambulance.
