JUST IN: Man carjacked at gate earlier this morning

A man was threatened with a firearm and subsequently fell victim to a carjacking earlier this morning.

A man was threatened with a firearm and subsequently fell victim to a carjacking after reversing his bakkie out of his yard earlier this morning (9 March).

Sergeant Linki Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said that at about 4am this morning, a 37-year-old Bekkersdal resident was carjacked in front of his driveway by two men, one of them armed with a firearm.

“It is alleged the victim reversed his bakkie from the yard and was alerting someone to close the gate. As he was about to get into the bakkie he was accosted by an unknown person armed with a firearm,” Lefakane said.

The attacker instructed the victim to move away from the vehicle while pointing the firearm at him. The second attacker jumped into the vehicle and both drove off.

The Bekkersdal Police were summoned and a case of carjacking was registered. A manhunt was launched for the two carjackers who are still at large. The police are appealing to the public to assist them with information that could lead to the arrest of these perpetrators.
