A community project with a difference

"We do not want desperate residents begging on the streets," said Morné.

Pastor Mack Langsberg, 59, and Morné Westraad, 39, brainstormed and came up with a community project of a different kind.

The Herald met up with them and learnt that Pastor Langsberg does missionary work. Then Deon Fullard, a famous businessman in the area, told the Herald that he once had a car wash, but he closed it.

Pastor Mack explained that what they want to do is help unemployed residents empower themselves by at least taking a salary home.

“We do not want desperate residents begging on the streets,” said Morné.

Their plan is, with the help of Deon, to re-open a car wash, where residents can earn a living. It is early days for the project, but their official opening will be on Thursday, 29 March.

They also explained that not just by word, but by deed, the community can then see the difference.

“We want the community to get involved and see that there is hope for a better future,” said Morné.

They are both going to start washing cars, and after that, the more hands that can help, the better for everyone. The car wash will also have a restaurant nextdoor, where you can have food and quench your thirst while you wait for your car to be washed.

This unique car wash will be open from 9am until 8pm, and will operate from 73 Steyr Street.

“If God has an aim for you to help other people, you have to follow that passion,” said Pastor Mack in closing.
