Woman wakes up to intruder in her bedroom

Woman wakes up to a stranger standing next to her bed and threatening her with an iron bar.

A Bekkersdal woman woke up on Saturday morning (3 March) to a stranger standing next to her bed, local police said.

The incident happened at about 4am.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, “It is alleged the victim was awoken by a light and realised a man was flashing a torch at her. The intruder threatened the woman with an iron bar and demanded money. She showed him where her handbag was and he took off with her money.

“The victim contacted the police and a case of house robbery was registered. A preliminary investigation was conducted and the suspect was identified and arrested. He already made a brief court appearance in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court and was denied bail.”

Colonel Abraham Nkhwashu, the Bekkersdal Police station commander was very pleased and thanked the community for the information that led to the arrest.

“This is the kind of relationship we expect from our communities. Working together we can do more,” he concluded.
