Marcelle Mans – An exceptional woman

Meet Marcelle Mans, one of the most successful women in Randfontein.

Today is International Women’s Day and the whole world not only celebrates women from all walks of life, crimes perpetrated against women are also condemned.

Randfontein resident Marcelle Mans is among those women in the community who seek to empower and uplift other women. By collecting bras for the Zabra initiative, she is doing her bit to help restore the dignity of women in need.

Marcelle, who has been the coordinator of the Randfontein Show for 23 years and directly involved in the Show for another seven years, said, “Christ has always been my role model and my walk with Christ motivates me”.

She said she had to overcome a few challenges to be where she is today. These include working with different people and meeting her deadlines, but Marcelle said she has had the resilience to deliver her best.

Although she has never been sidelined in her line of work because she is a woman, she is quite aware that other women who are trying to do everything by themselves, may not be as fortunate as she is.

She said International Women’s Day is the day that helps women realise their place in society. “This is an excellent initiative that gives women a platform to stand up and fight for their rights,” she said.

When Marcelle was asked what she ascribes her success to, she said, “I try my best to set an example and working hard brings success. I also believe team work makes the dream work.”

Marcelle said her support structure consists of God and her family. “I have a close circle of friends who support and pray with me,” she added. She believes that women often fall victim to abuse by men, because they are the weaker sex.

She said there are other ways of empowering women and ensuring that they are their own leaders.

“I also want to motivate them to love themselves; not to look back but forward, all the way.

She believes that crimes against women and children are a concern, but could be curbed if men treat women with respect.

“Charity begins at home and evil thrives where good people do nothing. People should do something, if anything is happening close to them,” Marcelle added.
