Man gets eight years for girlfriend’s murder

A man was sentenced to eight years in prison for stabbing and killing his girlfriend.

An eight-year prison sentence was handed down to 33-year-old Anele Chola from Simunye Extension 4 for murdering his ex-girlfriend two years ago.

The Westonaria Regional Court also declared him unfit to possess a firearm.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson confirmed that Chola had stabbed and killed Lebogang Lekgooa, 34, on 1 December 2016. “The accused was seen leaving his ex-girlfriend’s home with blood on his hands. The police were summoned to the scene and found the half-naked body of a woman lying in a pool of blood. A case of murder was registered and the suspect went on the run.

“He handed himself over to the police four days later and was denied bail. A thorough investigation led by detective Sergeant Sevha Shiviti led to the man’s sentence,” Lefakane said.

Colonel Abraham Nkhwasu, the Bekkersdal Police station commander applauded the member for the job well done and expressed his gratitude to the Prosecution team for the sentence.
