Women raped by two men – Sentenced

'The suspects ran away after committing the crime.'

On Wednesday, 28 February, 30-year-old Lefaso Moeti was sentenced to life imprisonment on two counts of rape and 15 years for robbery in the Westonaria Regional court.

“The victim was robbed of her cellphone, jewellery and cash and raped by two men on 18 August 2014 at about 8.20pm, in Westonaria at the R28/ N12 four-way stop,” said Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, spokesperson for the Bekkersdal Police.

This happened while she was waiting for her boyfriend to pick her up. She was dragged to an open field by the two men, who raped and robbed her.

They ran away after committing the crime.

The incident was reported to the Bekkersdal Police and a case of rape and robbery was opened for investigation.

Lieutenant Colonel Ockie Brits, the branch commander of the Khutsong detective branch, investigated two cases of business robbery which occurred in Carletonville and Bekkersdal and arrested twelve suspects. Thorough interrogation and forensic investigation, he linked one of the suspects to the rape in Westonaria.

It was Brits’ effort and excellent investigation that ensured the successful outcome in which the criminals were brought to book and sentenced.

The station commander, Colonel Melinda Prinsloo, applauded the officer for his good work and effort, especially since the crime took place outside the area in which he normally works.
