Suspect bust with stolen vehicle

The vehicle was reportedly stolen in Kliptown.

A 40-year-old male from Zuurbekom was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle on 23 February after the Bekkersdal Police received a tip-off from the community.

Constable Nicholas Hlungwane and his crew were conducting their routine patrol in Zuurbekom at about 10.44pm, when the complaint came to their attention.

“The police officers proceeded to the address and found a vehicle matching the description they had been given parked on the plot,” said Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, spokesperson for the Bekkersdal Police.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen in Kliptown. The suspect was arrested and will be charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle. He is expected to appear before the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court within 48 hours.

The station commander, Colonel Abraham Nkwashu, applauded the members for their swift reaction and thanked the community for the information that led to the successful arrest.
