Another woman dies as domestic violence continues

On Saturday, 24 February at approximately 12.30pm an argument between a couple in Badirile ended in tragedy.

“The 26-year-old man allegedly had an argument with his girlfriend, 25, inside his shack. The argument turned violent and he allegedly stabbed her several times with a sharp steel object. She died on the scene,” said Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson.

Police responded to the call-out and found the body of the 26-year-old male suspect in the street, next to his shack. He had multiple injuries to his face, allegedly caused by community members who assaulted him.

Investigations are continuing.

The Randfontein Police station commander, Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela expressed his shock with this double tragedy. “Domestic issues should be resolved without violence. Community members with domestic-related problems are urged to consult with counsellors at the Victim Empowerment Centres before it ends in death,” he said.
